The Point Of Departure Is Not To Arrive

I made this photograph with several things in mind.
I wanted to push contrast as far as possible
without producing an avant-garde, scholastic look.
More importantly, however, I wanted an
expressiveness from the model. I wanted to
show a tangled mix of hesitation and anticipation
that could not be described, but rather could be
recognized. This is the multifaceted look of a
person facing a major change.
