Richard Bourk
During my sophomore year in High School, I was cast
as Kokol in the McNeese University production of
The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat,
as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum at
Charenton, Under the Direction of the Marquis de
Sade
It was staged as a chaotic event with dozens of lunatics
providing a greek chorus styled narrative, and as much
flourish and insanity we could muster. I was called upon
by the director to play a fanfare or two on the trombone,
and I suggested a snare drum during the opening
segment, in which the lunatics stormed the theatre. He
thought it was a good touch, and I recruited Richard for
the part.
We made our high school band director very proud.
