Narcosis
November 1999 was the 100th anniversary of Sigmund
Freud's publication of
The Interpretation of Dreams.
This work changed the way we think
about the subconscious, creativity, and the mind
itself. Although many feel that Freudian
psychoanalysis is now obsolete, no one denies the
impact it has had on our perceptions.
I rarely remember my own dreams, but I find
that my subconscious runs rampant in my
photography. Often a photograph will emerge in
my mind and stand out from the rest. Finally after
living with the image for some time, some deep
meaning or reference suddenly becomes very clear.
This image reminds me of that magical moment
of twilight when drifting into sleep, I
catch myself slipping out of consciousness.
I find bliss most tangible at this moment.
