Mostly Harmless
How can I praise your figure?
The palm trees, the cedars,
the mast and the lily-
they do not live, they do not move ...
But in you each muscle lives,
nerves, muscles, and tendons,
secretly like mysterious waves
still billow in the quiet breeze.
Wherever you go, the air
fills with delight, and grows more refined,
and like a halo around a saint
covers your body with an aura of light.
In the stove the flames flare,
on the wall the clock stops,
when you proudly before the mirror
Undo your living waist.
