Intimate Distance
Robert Hughes says that Edward Hopper excelled at
painting the spaces between people. "He excelled at
painting, discretely and from without, people who are
outsiders to one another."
I am always impressed by the deep sense of separation
that he had captured so well in the 1930's. While it
would be vulgar and conceited to suggest that I have
succeeded in emulating Hopper, I can only hope that
some of this impression comes through in pieces like
INTIMATE DISTANCE.
