Counterpoint

The eye is not quicker than the mind.
Sometimes we see what we think we see,
and not what we see in fact.
I have always loved this image for the suggestiveness of the shadows,
and for the phantom curves and fingers that
those shadows create. The first impression comes from the shadows,
and that is provocative and sensuous.
A second, more literal glace almost spoils the first.
Let the mind’s eye have the day.
