Contents Under Pressure

"The academy has recieved from a certain Marat
some theories concerning fire light and electricity.
This Marat seems entirely certain
that he knows a great deal more than the Academy,
for fire he says is not an element,
but a liquid fluidium caused by heat
which only ignites because of air!
Light, he proceeds to say, is not light,
but a path of vibratorating rays
left behind by light.
Certainly an extraordinary scientist,
he goes further.
Heat, according to him is not, of course heat,
but more vibratoratory rays
which become heat only when they
collide with a body and set in motionability
it's miniscule molecules.  He wants to pronounce the whole firm
and fixed creation invalid,
and instead he wants to introduce
a universe of unbridled activation
in which frenzied magnetic forces
whizz about and rub against each other.
No wonder that the author sits there in his bath
attempting to determine the validity of the proposition
'The more you scratch, the more you itch!'"
