Compartments

This photograph leads my mind's eye eastward to the
heavily compressed living space of modern, urban Japan.
I am reminded of sleep lockers for business travellers which
are little more than air conditioned cubby holes. The stark and
contrasty color also suggests a harshly lighted, post-modernist space.
Contemporary humanity, cramped and crowded into the bed
she has made for herself.
